Tips for AC Recycling

If you have some old air conditioners that no longer work or that you no longer have any need for, you will want to opt for AC recycling. If you are not familiar with air conditioner recycling, you might not know what to do. You certainly do not want to simply allow all of the old window AC units to take up room in your basement. Therefore, you will want to check out the following ways in which you can make sure that they are recycled properly:

1. Haul It to the Scrap Yard

One good way to recycle your pile of old window air conditioners is to take them to the scrap yard. However, you will need to first remove the coolant from the air conditioning units. After you have removed the coolant, you can take them all to the scrap yard. If you have never removed coolant before, you may be able to find videos online that will walk you through the process.

2. Advertise Free Scrap for the Taking

If you don't want to or don't have time to remove the coolant on your own, you can let someone else do it. Advertise that you have free scrap metal in the form of old air conditioners for the taking. Those who have a lot of experience removing the coolant can remove them from your property and then turn them over to the scrap yard when they are done. They get the money made from recycling them, but you get to be rid of the old window air conditioning units.

3. Find a Local Scrap Drop Off Day

Some towns or cities will have designated days when residents can drop off large items that cannot normally get picked up by the local garbage company. Things like the old air conditioner units and other items such as large televisions or washing machines can be taken to the community scrap drop off day. From there, those who organize and run the event will scrap what they can and dispose of the rest at local landfills.

With a little effort, you will be able to have your old window air conditioning units out of your home and out of your way. They will be scrapped and the metal put to good use again for something else. You can learn more about the process and your options by contacting local AC recycling companies.
